my guide dog is a hero.
last week on tuesday two little pawmorrayneans got loose from there owner they yanked the leash out of her hand.
and all shiloh was doing was going to the bathroom.
But every time i tried to get her to move even fruther away from the highrise towards the street the two dogs kept following us.
I knew that something was wrong cause i heard the lady yell to her dogs know come back so thats why i tried to keep shiloh moving after she was done going to the bathroom. anyways, i got tangled in the two dogs leash and i ended up accidentally falling on top of shiloh and she grabbed one of the little dogs but she didn't hurt it.
The lady didn't come over to help me with getting her dogs away till she saw my shiloh grab the little dog.
according to pilot dogs shiloh was protecting me and was in the right to grab the dog.
I had to call animal control and tell them about it.
but they couldnt do nothing because none of the animals got injured. The lady did find me today and apologized for her dogs getting loose she said that they were strong and that sometimes they get loose which i don't buy for a second since they've gone after other dogs in the building.
anyways my guide dog was deffending herself and the school told me next time to try to kick the dogs out of the way if it happens again but to be careful that they didn't bite me.
Shiloh really could have hurt that little dog if she wanted to but she didn't and i'm proud of her for not hurting it.

You must be proud of her. My aunt has one of those little dogs. The first week I had Daisy Sassy kept bothering me Daisy growled at her. Mom got mad she told my cousin to grab Daisy's collar! I told he no! I don't know why I told my cousin Breyley not to touch Daisy! Aunt Jerine said Breyley could've been hurt! Daisy was only protect me. I'm sorry you lost your aunt.

true they wont hurt other dogs. even if they got attacked. that time my dog got attacked all she did while the other dog was trying to bite her on the neck was putting herself between me and the other dog so the other dog couldn't get to me... it makes me cry when i think of it. i got my punishment anyway for trying to drag her away from that damn dog, i fell and hit my head rather hard on a stake and was strange for a few months, they didn't even know if i could make it without permanent damage, but i did it. or maybe some permanent damage in my head was really made? lol anyway just curious, what does the last post have to do with this? it's good that selena fan is a good friend of yours but i thought it could fit bhetter in a different topic... just saying

Um, sorry but that does not make your dog a hero. A good dog, yes, in a way, but not a hero. I agree that those little dogs were in the wrong and their owner also, but they would not have hurt you. Maybe bitten you, but not seriously hurt you and so your dog didn't really do anything amazing or life saving. I'm sorry but just about any guide dog or even regular pet dog would have tried to protect you. I do think it was nice that she kept them away with out hurting them but that does not make her a hero for crying out loud. A guide dog that pulls their owner away from a twenty story fall or trafic checks them out from in front of a speeding car or a pet dog that wakes up a family when there's a fire in the house or comes to get someone's attention when the infant in the house stops breathing, those are heros. You really need to choose your wording more carefully. Maybe you should have posted a topic like "Ah, I hate little dogs." "Cute story about my dog protecting me." "Shillo and I had quite a day." "Trouble with badly behaving small dogs." or something like that. It is offensive to those who's dogs truly have done heroic things, and I am not saying that my dog is one of those dogs, to brand your own dog a hero for something so trifling by comparison.

I to aggree with the last three posts, Sheri my previous guide was a hero, she saw a car coming in the rain, and grabbed my skirt to move me out of the way of the car, this, is an act of heroism.

wow, you guys know how to burst her bbubble dont you. she thinks of her dog as a hero so let her do it. geesh, shakes head. maybe she saved the little dogs from running out in the street and getting hit by a car. lots of things could have happen, but thanks that they didn't! so let the girl have her few minutes of telling her story without people running it. if you want to tell your story, then so be it, but don't try ruinning hers just to tell yours!
shakes head, wow people.

what makes a hero for one doesn't necessarily make a hero for another. my mom is my hero and she didn't do any of those above mentioned things. and no matter how much bitching someone wants to do to tell me that she doesn't qualify as a hero in their book, she'll still be my hero.
shelly that's awesome that your dog did that.

Shelly,
I wasn't saying your dog wasn't your hero, I was just saying, that she's not "a" hero. I am glad you and shelo will be working for a long long time. and I wish you the best, give her lots of hugs for me, and love her with all you posess, I had her sister, and she became very dog aggressave after being attacked, and I miss her like crazy every day of my life. So, give the little princess lots and lots of love.

There's a difference between being someone's hero and being a hero. To every child, at least at some point in their life their parent(s) are their heros. And, that is as it should be. However there is a difference between a parent who is a policeman, firefighter, militaryman or woman, etc and a simply wonderful parent. Has anyone ever heard the song "in my daughter's eyes"? "In my daughter's eyes, I am a hero. I am strong and wise and I know no fear..." There's nothing wrong with that. In a way all mothers are heros simply for bringing new life into the world, but the distinction being made here is between feeling that your parent, friend, pet, guide dog, etc is a hero and a person or animal being a true hero in the broad sense of the word. I don't want her bubble burst; it was nice what her dog did, but it must be distinguished from the story shared above by another zoner who's dog actually saved her life and many other such stories. There are too many instances of common, misbehaving, poorly trained or poorly handled guide dogs being labled as heros, just because they are guide dogs and ordinary, unremarkable blind individuals being branded heros just for living with a disability. I'm not saying anything about the poster or her dog, simply that stories in real life often garner praise they should not have and it is frustrating to those who have real accomplishments to see this happening. Have any of you been told "You're so special." or "You're so brave." just because you are blind and not because of any real accomplishment or act of courage to your credit? You are special if you win a sports competition, find a cure for a disease, invent a wonderful and inovative new product. You are not special for making your bed, going to school, holding an ordinary job, cooking a meal, etc just because you're blind. You are brave if you run into a burning building to save a child, stand up to a man with a gun to protect someone else, speak out on a highly contriversial issue in a volital venue or undertake a dangerous mission or task. You are not brave because you attend a community college, walk to the corner store, ride a tandum bicycle with someone, cook with a stove, etc just because you are blind. I hope this illistrates my point. I know it is a little vague in how it relates, but it should help make the connection. I feel that my father is my hero, but is certainly not a hero. My friend's father who has served six years in the military in high conflict areas is a hero. My dog Paisley is my hero, but she is not a hero. My mother's dog Polly who stopped her from stepping off of a five story drop in a construction site is a hero. I guess my objection is one of incorrect use of language and one of personal afront at over exaduration.

yeah i hate little rat dogs. and also people who call me a hero or brave simply because i am blind. i have had that happen before.

Post 20 by shelly and shiloh (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 05-Apr-2008 16:37:13

i didn't mean that shiloh was a hero because she tried to help me and to keep those dogs from both of us.
I just meant in the figurative sense that i was proud of her for doing that and i didn't ever think she'd like me enough to try to protect me like that.
so yeah.. sorry i don't always use the right words to describe things so my apologies.
